**Intro-level interactive theory class for all musicians ages 11-18!
Get a feel for music theory in this introduction to harmony and melody! The process-based course encourages participants to experiment with intervals, melodies, and chords, while understanding their own emotional connection to the theoretical process.
Featuring a class session with guest artist Harlan Hodges, acclaimed LA based composer who has worked for Disney and Apple, among many others reputable companies.
Final Product: A collaboratively written piece of music.

Meet your Artist Instructor:
Sam Pankey is an upright and electric bassist from Memphis, TN who now lives and works in the Austin, TX area. He attended the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas, where he studied under John Fremgen. During that time, he took lessons with some of the world’s top bass players, including Larry Grenadier, Joe Sanders, Linda May Han Oh, Harish Raghavan, and many others. During his senior year at UT, he placed in the semi-finals level of the Scott Lafaro Jazz Competition, an international competition put on by the International Society of Double Bassists.
Sam has performed and recorded internationally with a wide variety of musical acts, including neo-classical band Balmorhea, garage-rock band White Denim, and singer-songwriter power trio Marmalakes. He also enjoys a steady performance life with local Austin bands, including Star Parks, Mother Falcon, PR Newman, Sometimes A Legend, and many others. He has also performed with jazz luminaries Jon Irabagon, Rotem Sivan, Luis Perdomo, and Kevin Lovejoy, and many, many others.

With so much to learn and share, we’re ensuring participants are able to stay in the moment and centered on content. Each Artist Instructor is supported by an additional instructor in the zoom room to monitor needs, helping to field questions and assist with technical issues. Also, we are offering a virtual Chill Room – a spot where you can play a game, relax from class or talk anything out with Mr. Michael!
The unique content of this course has been developed by experienced artists and instructors in a ground up, collaborative environment. We are passionate about what we do and the experiences we share with our community!
